Today's English is an example of a casual conversation between two people
asking for information suitable for their work environment
with indirect questions and compliments.
We are easy to ask direct questions,
but in English, we always give indirect questions and compliments.
Please try practicing it.
Example 1:
A: Hi there! I love your outfit today, it's so chic. Do you happen to know what day and time the marketing meeting is next week?
B: Thank you so much, I appreciate it! And yes, the marketing meeting is on Tuesday at 10 AM in the conference room.
Example 2:
A1: Hey, you're looking great today, as always! Could you tell me if the regional director will be speaking after the opening session?
B2: Aw, thank you, you're too sweet! And to answer your question, I'm not entirely sure, but I believe the regional director will be speaking towards the end of the day. I can double-check and let you know for sure though!
Example 3:
A1: Hey, I just wanted to say that I always appreciate how organized and on top of things you are. By any chance, I'd like to know if the deadline for the report has been extended.
B2: Thank you, that means a lot coming from you! And yes, the deadline has been extended by a day, so we have a bit more time to work on it.
Example 4:
A1: Hey, I just wanted to say that I really admire your creativity and the ideas you bring to the table. Do you have any idea if there are any new projects in the pipeline for the department?
B2: Aw, thank you so much, I really appreciate it! And to answer your question, yes, there are actually a couple of new projects that we're currently in the planning stages for. I can give you more details if you're interested!
